Barbed wire

Here’s a brief tutorial about how to make a realistic-looking barbed wire that adds a bit more realism to your dioramas and scale models!

The barbed wire appears since more than a century in the battlefields, so it could end up in some of our scale model works!

The technique I'm using here is not my invention, you can find it everywhere on the Internet or in specialized magazines. However, for the sake of completeness, I'm putting here my personal experience too! 😉

First of all, I took a thin copper wire from an old electric cable, I folded it twice and I weaved it:

Then I stretched it between two supports (next time I'll better fix them in place to stop them moving…):

After that I took some other wire, weaving it 3 or 4 times on the main thread at fixed intervals, with a "S" shape:

Finally I glued the junctions with a bit of cyanoacrylate, and I cut the excess wire. This is the result:

Once completed, it looks very similar to the actual one. It needs only painting and weathering to finish the job! 🙂
